Oakwood, SUNO, Fisk claim Week 7 HBCUAC Volleyball Honors
NEW ORLEANS - September 29, 2025 - Oakwood University's Kamaria Murray wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Attacker of the Week. Southern University at New Orleans' Samaria Berry takes home Defender and Freshman of the Week. Fisk University's Kaia Barnett garners Setter of the Week and Shelby Chamblin earns Newcomer of the Week. The ladies were honored for their performances between September 22-28, the conference announced on Monday.
Murray averaged 3.88 kills per set and recorded 31 in two matches last week. She recorded a double-double with 19 kills and 22 digs in a four-set victory over LeMoyne-Owen College. On Sunday, Murray recorded 12 to secure a four-set win over Stillman College in an HBCUAC match. This is her second honor.
Berry recorded 13 blocks in two matches last week. Nine of those blocks came against Tougaloo College on Saturday, helping the Knights to their first conference victory. Berry also contributed 23 kills, three aces and a .378 hitting percentage. She leads the conference with 25 blocks during HBCUAC play and with 46 block assists overall. Berry is second in the conference with 48 total blocks.
Barnett recorded two double-doubles continuing Fisk's unbeaten run in HBCUAC play. She tallied 28 assists and 16 digs in a four-set win at Talladega College on Friday. She followed with 23 assists and 10 digs in a four-set win over Stillman College on Saturday. Barnett earns her third weekly honor.
Chamblin recorded 26 kills to help Fisk to two conference victories. She recorded a career-high 17 in a four-set win against Stillman College. For the week, she scored 34.5 points, averaging 4.9 per set. Chamblin also contributed six assists, six aces and 16 digs. This is her seventh weekly honor.

About the HBCU Athletic Conference
The HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) is the only HBCU conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The HBCUAC membership includes Dillard University (LA), Fisk University (TN), Huston-Tillotson University (TX), Oakwood University (AL), Paul Quinn College (TX), Philander Smith University (AR), Rust College (MS), Southern University at New Orleans (LA), Stillman College (AL), Talladega College (AL), Tougaloo College (MS), University of the Virgin Islands (St. Thomas), Voorhees University (SC), Wilberforce University (OH), and Wiley University (TX).
