Fisk, SUNO win Week 2 HBCUAC Volleyball Awards
NEW ORLEANS - Aug 26, 2024- Fisk University athletes Reagan Jones and Trinity Britt repeated as Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference Attacker and Setter of the Week, while Southern University at New Orleans athlete Armoni Harris won Defender of the Week for matches played between August 18-25 the conference announced Monday.
The athletes were nominated for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics awards, which will be announced on Tuesday.
For the week, Jones notched double figures in kills in three out of four matches in the Onset Invitational hosted by the University of St. Francis (Ind.), slamming 10 kills on Indiana University Kokomo, which is ranked No. 16 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and hitting .389 against No. 20 Mount Vernon Nazarene. Her weekend-high of 16 kills came against Saint Francis. Jones is currently the top attacker in the HBCU Athletic Conference, leading with 100 total kills and averaging 3.57 kills per set. Through the first two weeks of play, she remains in the top 15 of total kills in the country. Jones is also top 15 in the NAIA total points scored.
Britt recorded double digits in assists in every match this weekend including one double-double match against #16 IU Kokomo. She is currently ranked 12th in the NAIA in total assists and is currently ranked #1 in the HBCUAC in total assists and assists per set. Currently, Britt is leading the total assist category by a margin of 165 ahead of the second-place player. She is leading the assist per set category also by a large margin. She is averaging 8.04 assists per set with the next player having 5.20.
Harris' 51 digs helped the Knights remain consistent at the net during the University of Mobile Tournament. She passed at a high level with very few reception errors throughout the four-match weekend, with just six errors in 95 attempts. Her 19 digs against Florida Memorial University was a match-high. Harris averaged 3.92 digs per set, which leads the HBCUAC.
