Huston-Tillotson, Talladega, Wiley claim Week 2 HBCUAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honors
NEW ORLEANS - September 8, 2025 - Talladega College's Annalisa Vincent wins Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Offensive Player of the Week. Wiley University goalkeeper Mariana Quijano takes home Defensive Player of the Week. Feryi Sanchez garners Freshman of the Week. Huston-Tillotson University's Jerusalem Rodriguez-Gamez earns Newcomer of the Week. The ladies were recognized for their performances between September 1-7, the conference announced on Monday.
Vincent, the 2025 HBCUAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, scored eight goals and provided three assists to lead the Tornadoes to two victories last week. In a 12-0 rout over Blue Mountain Christian University, she put up six goals and three assists. Nine of her 11 shots were on goal. Vincent added two goals and six shots with four on goal. She leads the conference in goals, assists and points.
Quijano helped the Lady Wildcats to three victories and recorded her first career shutout. She stopped two of three shots in a 4-1 win over Jarvis Christian University on Wednesday. In 49 minutes against Centenary College of Louisiana of Louisiana, she made a save. Against National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Huntingdon College on Saturday, Quijano stopped 11 shots en route to her first clean sheet. Her performance helped the Lady Wildcats open with four consecutive victories for the first time in program history. She leads the conference in saves, save percentage and goals against average.
Sanchez contributed two goals and an assist. She scored the game-winning goal against NCAA Division III school Centenary College of Louisiana on Friday. She set up Nadia Hernandez's third goal of the season on Saturday. She scored her second goal of the season, helping the Lady Wildcats to a 2-0 victory over Huntingdon College.
Rodriguez-Gamez provided three goals and two assists in three matches last week. She assisted on two goals in a September 1 victory over Jarvis Christian University. In Friday's 10-0 rout over Arlington Baptist University, she recorded a hat trick. For the week, six of her 10 shots were on goal.
