Fisk, SUNO claim final 2025-26 HBCUAC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards

Fisk and Southern University at New Orleans end the regular season on a high note.

NEW ORLEANS - Fisk University guard Kaleb Jeffries wins Historically Black Colleges and Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week. Southern University at New Orleans guard Jermaine Lawrence claims Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week. These were the final weekly awards for the 2025-26 season, the conference announced on Monday.

Jeffries set the Fisk record for most points in a single game with 40 against Rust College on Saturday. He shot 14-for-21 and 6-for-12 from 3-point territory. Jeffries also got his teammates involved with five assists. In Monday's victory over Wilberforce, he scored 14 points. His performance helped Fisk rise to the fifth seed in the HBCUAC 2026 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship.

Lawrence delivered a dominant two-way performance, making his presence felt on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he poured in 21 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting (77.8%) while converting 7-of-9 from the free-throw line and adding six assists to facilitate for his teammates. Defensively, Lawrence was a game-changer, pulling down 15 rebounds — including 14 on the defensive glass — while disrupting the opposition with six steals and five blocks.
