Wiley's Perez, Porter claim Week 11 HBCUAC Baseball Weekly Honors
NEW ORLEANS - April 14, 2025 - Wiley University outfielder Jacob Perez garners Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Baseball Player of the Week and Jalen Porter takes home Pitcher of the Week for the third straight week. The athletes were honored for their performances between April 7-13, the conference announced on Monday.
During the week he was honored for his four seasons with the Wildcats, Perez carried them offensively. He went 7-for-11, hit two home runs, drove in nine runs and scored three. He had multiple hits and RBI in all three games against Tougaloo. He reached base in every plate appearance in the second game. For the week, Perez posted an impressive 1.182 slugging percentage.
Porter threw his second straight complete game and his second start in the last three where he did not give up an earned run. He held Tougaloo to an unearned run on three hits and struck out nine with no walks. He earned his sixth win and continues to lead the HBCUAC with 82 strikeouts. His performance helped the Wildcats stay within striking distance of HBCUAC leader Talladega.

About HBCU Athletic Conference
The HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) is the only HBCU conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The HBCUAC membership includes Dillard University (LA), Fisk University (TN), Oakwood University (AL), Philander Smith University (AR), Rust College (MS), Southern University at New Orleans (LA), Stillman College (AL), Talladega College (AL), Tougaloo College (MS), University of the Virgin Islands (St. Thomas), Voorhees University (SC), Wilberforce University (OH), and Wiley University (TX).
