SUNO's Bowens, Wiley's Porter garner Week 9 HBCUAC Weekly Awards
NEW ORLEANS - March 31, 2025 - Southern University at New Orleans outfielder Miles Bowens captures Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Baseball Player of the Week. Wiley University's Jalen Porter wins Pitcher of the Week. The athletes were honored for their performances between March 24-30, the conference announced on Monday.
Bowens led the Knights' onslaught against Rust College with 12 runs batted in, nine hits and 10 runs. Five of his nine hits went for extra bases, including two home runs. Bowens hit .750 in the first two games of the series and finished the week with a .692 batting average. He is tied for second in the HBCUAC with eight home runs, sixth with 31 RBI and seventh with a .402 batting average.
Porter dominated Wilberforce in the series opener throwing 6 1/3 scoreless innings for his fourth win of the season. He matched his career high with 12 strikeouts. Only one of the five hits he allowed went for extra bases. His performance set the tone, as the Wildcats swept their third HBCUAC series. Porter leads the HBCUAC with 63 strikeouts.

About HBCU Athletic Conference
The HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) is the only HBCU conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
